At its last meeting in Hamilton on 3 May this year, the EDSNZ Council resolved that a newsletter would be sent on a regular basis several times a year to keep members better informed of the work of Council to promote the Extraordinary Form of the Latin Mass in New Zealand. Since the letter of Benedict XVI “Summorum Pontificum” was published seven years ago, the EF Latin Mass has become more widely available in New Zealand but we are aware that there is sometimes difficulty in obtaining priests to offer the EF Latin Mass. To that end the Society’s Chairman Neil Coup and the Diane Taylor, National Secretary, obtained an appointment to attend the Bishop’s Conference in Wellington on Wednesday, 2 April to discuss ways the bishops might be able make the EF Mass even more available, erecting personal parishes in each diocese, and to make provision for further training for NZ priests to say the Traditional Latin Mass.
Council have since received a reply from the New Zealand Bishops Conference, some details of which were made public in the “NZ Catholic” in the 15 – 28 June issue. Correspondence with the New Zealand Bishops Conference is ongoing and EDSNZ has requested to attend the next Bishops Conference in October.
On 8th of February 2014 EDSNZ joined Catholics worldwide in a Petition for the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate and for the defence of the Motu Proprio “Summorum Pontificum”. The petition which included 300 signatures from New Zealand was delivered to Pope Francis at the end of March this year.
And we are happy to report that through the generous donations of EDSNZ members the Society’s Priest’s Fund has been able to donate $2,000 to assist two young New Zealand men to attend the Ezechiel House Novitiate of the Fraternity of St Peter in Sydney. This is a very important work for the Society and so your continued generous support of the Priest’s Fund is needed.
EDSNZ continues to make the Latin Mass magazine available to members at a reduced cost and so subscribers to the magazine are urged to renew their subscription to the magazine as soon as possible.
